When the ThunderCats were forced to flee from Thundera, Lion-O was just twelve years old. Due to ship damage, everyone had to enter stasis pods until they reached the safety of Third Earth.
Lion-O's stasis pod malfunctioned and his body grew older while his mind remained inactive. When he was awakened, he was a full-grown man with the mental capacities of a twelve-year-old.
Over time he has grown into his role as the leader of the Thundercats and his knowledge of combat and strategy has greatly improved.
Lion-O weilds the magical Sword of Omens. The Sword of Omens holds the Eye of Thundera, a mystical stone that provides the Sword's magic. The swords abilities include: shooting energy bolts, the ability to see when other ThunderCats are in danger or summon the others for aid, forming an energy shield, and clairvoyance.

His Deal:
Born on Fibuli, Baal grew up in the shadow of his protector instructor father, who diligently taught his son the way of the Mew-Tao religion. Through his formative years, Baals life consisted of training, studying the force and martial arts.
At age ten, Baal was awarded his own training lightsaber, with which he showed great proficiency. Feeling his son needed to experience other cultures and species, Baals father took him off planet.
While studying on the planet of Garnib, Baal joined Raptor Squad and has been with them ever since. His ability in the force has increased and he now uses his full potential during battle. Weilding a set of twin lightsabers, Baal's natural abilities augment his use of the force, making him a deadly foe.

Motivation:
Truth, Justice, Honor and Loyalty. This is the Thundercat motto and what defines Lion-O. When Mumm-Ra deceives the Leader of the Thundercats into believing that Balthazar is responsible for the gruesome deaths of many Thundercat allies, Lion-O, enraged, must uphold this code.
Seeking vengeance, and knowing that he must stop this brutal killer before any more damage is done, Lion-O walks into a battle that he realizes, may be his last.
Motivation:
Being a honor bound warrior and student in the force, Balthazar is fascinated by the teachings and history of his Trianni religion, the Mew Tao. On many occasions, and much to the dismay of his fellow Raptor Squad teammates, this obsession has led Balthazar to charge into situations ill-prepared.
When he is summoned by a powerful Jedi Master who claims to know secrets of the Mew Tao, he doesn’t hesitate to do whatever it takes to learn more about the past of his people.
When this Jedi Master informs him that a devotee of the dark side has taken a precious Mew-Tao relic, a sacred sword once used by a Mew-Tao priestess, all he needs to do is point Balthazar in the direction of the sword and let him go. However, like so many times before, this mission ins't as cut and dry as it first appears; and the possibility of Balthazar making it out alive decreases with each passing moment.

"A cat versus cat fight, hmmm? Well, I will right now admit that I never had much luck with the more “feline” species. Depending on the specific sub-species, a fight can either go to the more cunning or more vicious.
In regards to this bout, you have two very large, very violent cats. Subtlety is not going to be a factor in this match, nor will prowess. Please, do not mistake that these two are very agile and acrobatic, however, the ability to jump far means little when you will be landing on wet lava rock with the consistency of glass.
One one hand, I favor Lion-O. He is powerful, agile and knows the terrain. His ability with the Sword of Omens in legendary, and the resources that the weapon brings to the table cannot be discounted.
But, in the end, I’m going with Balthazar. In my opinion, he matches Lion-O in every category, strength, speed, agility, and intelligence. Nonetheless, while Lion-O wields a magical sword, Baal IS magical.
The mysterious power known as “The Force” courses through him and enhances everything he does; from picking his fangs to charging into battle, the force will be what determines the result of this battle."

"Vasi sees an ugly fight with lots of fur and blood being shed. Two large cats with deadly weapons going at it until one drops. Not a pretty site. But credits to be made!
Vasi sees this one ending quickly, with one combatant limping away in victory and one going to make the “Final Jump.”
Lion-o is powerful and quick. But Vasi thinks Lion-O is a bit smarter and experienced than Balthazar. Lion-O has fought adversaries the likes of which Balthazaar has never even seen. Creatures of such profound darkness Vasi trembles at the mere thought of them.
Balthazar may have the force, but Vasi knows the force is not to be trusted! One must rely on one’s skills and experience to win these battles. Balthazar may be good with his lightsabers, but combat is about more than just the weapons.
Vasi sees Lion-O trimming Balthazar down to size while the volcano rages and the thunder rolls."
